The concept of mitahaara is central to yoga and ayurveda. Basically what it is concerened with the having the right kind of food in the right amounts, at the right time of the day and in the right season. Other variables to be taken into consideration when deciding mitahaara is the activities your lifestyle demands and your prakriti (body type) matched with the trigunas of your food.

An Urban Yogee's diet is either sattvic or rajasic, depending on the path of yoga chosen, but always cleansing. It also minimises, if not totally eliminates, tamasic food. (see 3 gunas of food

Mitahaara and keeping to the right diet for you, given all the above factors, while difficult in an urban setup, is very much possible; and that too without giving up your social life - which let's face it, almots always includes, if not revolves solely around, food.

Mitahaara is most emphasised on the Hatha Yoga path. In Raja Yoga it is one of the Yamas or restraints that make up the first of the eight spokes of Ashtanga Yoga.
