An amazing tonic, straight from your kitchen, to boost calcium and mineral levels.
Take 50 gms of each of the ingredients below. Roast each one individually till crispy. Don't burn! Cool. Grind to a powder. Let the powder cool. Then fill in glass bottles and store below 20 degrees Celsius. Stays upto 2 years when correctly stored.
DO NOT use wet spoons to scoop from bottles! Totally dry spoons or better yet, simply tap out some as needed and put right back in the fridge.
Ingredients
- Safed Til (white sesame seeds)
- Khashkhash (poppy seeds)
- Makhana (lotus seeds popped like popcorn)
- Badam (almonds)
- Kaju (cashews)
- Chilgoza or Neja (pine nuts)
- Akhrote (walnuts)
- Kharik (dried unsweetened dates)
Method
Roast 50 gms of each one of the above ingredients in a kadai. They need to be roasted separately as each one has a different roasting time and temperature.
When cooled, grind to fine powder. Grinding too soon after roasting, when the ingredients are still warm, will result in a soggy sticky mixture. Grinding too late when the ingredients have lost their crispness will also change the texture of the mixture. So find that Goldilocks zone!
Add a few pinches of kesar and powdered chhoti elaichi seeds.
When cooled, fill in a glass bottle and store it in the fridge/ below 20 degrees; avoid freezing as it will reduce the beneficial effects.
How to have it
Daily dosage is 2 teaspoons for adults and 1 teaspoon for children, which can be mixed into freshly cooked oats or upma. It can also be mixed with organic honey and eaten as a mid morning or mid day snack. Or simply have a spoonful as it is, chased down by a glass of warm milk or water.
DO NOT mix with chhaas or dahi/ yogurt.
