This is where Consciousness lives.
Consciousness cannot be captured in words - language is insufficient to describe the experience of our soul. So it is explained by analogy, specifically that of a pot and the space inside and outside it.
A pot typically is an almost enclosed rounded space, which is likened to the individual soul. The field in which the pot exists is also space, analogous to the Cosmic Consciousness.
Another analogy can be drawn to the phenomenon of the dial up Internet, with the Cosmic Consciousness being the data on the Internet (purusha, paramaatma) and each one of us a device with some information held locally being the Individual Consciousness (soul, jivaatma).
Our bodies (Stula Sharira) are the devices and our Sukshma Sharira the modems, which can connect to the Infinite Cosmic Internet. The many paths of yoga, various religions, culture specific traditions and practices - these are all different scripts to make this connection. Some modems may never connect, some maybe running the scripts but run into bad karmic connectivity or difficult guna combinations, while others may manage to make the connection easily. The Infinite Cosmic Internet exists, independent of the modems' ability or inability to connect to it. The device can, on its own, function quite well as a stand alone machine, but cannot achieve the quality or nature of tasks as the device connected to the Internet (purusha).
