To avail of these opportunities, join me on my farm in Mangaon, for 3 days at a time, along the Konkan coast, 3 hours away from Mumbai, as a volunteer.

Volunteership is by prior arrangement only. Please call me to know more, and for scheduling.

Offline Only at my farm in Mangaon, along the Konkan coast, on the Goa road.

Takes approximately 3.5 hours to reach there from Mumbai, by road or train.

We will be working for a minimum of 6 hours daily, in the open, exposed to the elements.

By prior arrangement only

Formative years spent farming, with a lifetime of family farming knowledge passed on from generations.

My Charges & How I Work

I started my recent journey by rebuilding the soil on my land, and continue to nurture my farm's soil through organic techniques of composting and mulching. I also practise Ahimsa pest control where I do not kill the creatures that want to feast on my farm. I use the urine from my village cows, along with neem oil, ash, and other natural ingredients to make natural organic pesticides which repel instead of killing.

Another method I use is to offer alternate plants which the the snails and insects find more attractive, thus leaving my crops alone. Confusion, distraction and repelling, I use all non violent methods of managing the insects and animals that we share this planet with, instead of killing and eliminating the creatures that feast on my crops.

This is really fulltime work and requires constantly strategising !! :-) Especially since recently we have had swarms of tiny snails taking refugee on my farm, and only my farm -- since the surrounding farms use chemical pesticides to drive them away.

I am a small scale farmer, not only facing challenges such these snails, deer, rabbits, rats and wild boars -- all manner of life drawn to the goodness of organic produce -- but also a shortage of labour. One of the ways I am trying to address this is by offering volunteers knowledge transfer of age old, natural, organic, generational family farming and processing techniques in exchange for working 6 hours per day on my farm -- a win-win for all parties involved, as well as Mother Nature!

I wants to transfer my knowledge so as to preserve this age-old traditional knowledge which seems to be slowy dying out in today's modern technology dominated world. I wish to do this so that the ecological sensitivities of co existing peacefully with all life isn't completely wiped out.

So if this sounds appealing to you, I would love to hear from you, regarding your plan to volunteer. I will teach you plenty about all things organic. Simple rustic room and board is included, with basic vegetarian fare and non-ac accommodation. I am absolutely positive the hands-on experiences will impact your life and worldview!
