Nadis
Energy Meridians

Prana is conducted to every inch of the body via conduits called Nadis. They are, if you will, the electrical wiring of the the human body, along which travels the life giving energy that powers every cell in the human body.
Numbering anywhere between 72,000 to 350,000 (depending on which ancient text you reference) nadis are a network of psychic channels along which flows prana, the life force. Mapping roughly to a mix of the network of nerves as well as the network of blood vessels on the gross level, these nadis carry much more than the blood and sensory motor data. On a subtle level, they carry prana - the energy that animates us all - to every cell in the body.
Though nadis number in the many tens of thousands, there are fourteen primary nadis, and of these fourteen, just three stand as key energy pillars for yogees - the Ida, Pingala and Sushumna.
Nadis
Mapping quite closely to the energy meridians of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), nadis can be balanced, activated, soothed and otherwise manipulated by yoga practises. Playing with these energies by yourself through trial and error is not recommended.
