Pungent flavoured ajwain is more useful for its medicinal properties than as a spice.
Similar in taste and flavour to thyme, caraway and carom, ajowan is pungent and heaty, and avoidable in extremely hot weather.
The ajwain seeds pair perfectly with skin-on baby potatoes, cooked with just haldi and namak.
A digestive aid, few seeds added to hot water and taken after meals, helps keep stomach and intestines healthy. Just dont overdo it, as it can provoke acidity in excess amounts.
An effective decongestant and a natural respiratory distress reliever, ajwain seeds can be roasted on a tava and then wrapped in a thin natural fibre handerchief, to be applied on the chests of infants as young as a few days old. TO be safe, check the heat against your inner wrist and then layer the baby's to protect their delicate skin from burns. Works pretty well on adults as well.
