A natural antibiotic/antiseptic/anti inflammatory and almost mandatory in everyday Indian cooking, this spice is used in both wet and dry dishes, turmeric is a natural antiseptic and antibiotic .

A teaspoonful of haldi mixed in warm milk (yes, the Turmeric latte fad is actually an Indian grandmas' remedy) soothes a sore throat and gives relief from a dry cough.

Mix some dry-roasted haldi with a little honey, taken thrice a day will help alleviate the discomfort from a wet cough and chest infection.
